back-to-school-clip-art-274937We can hardly believe that the 2016-2017 school year is already here!  We hope you have enjoyed the summer and we are looking forward to another exciting year at Apperson!  The first day of school is tomorrow, Tuesday, August 16 – arrive early to find parking and to find your child’s classroom assignment on the posted lists.  All families will be allowed on campus and there will be a short assembly after the morning bell rings.  School hours are 8:00 am – 1:22 pm every Tuesday (2:22 pm dismissal on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).  Our valet-drop off service will begin on Wednesday – this is the easiest and safest way to deliver your child to school.  Please pull forward to the Day Street gate and a volunteer will open your car door and usher your student through the gate.  Remember to always drive slowly and cautiously around school and allow plenty of time to get here so that your student can be in their line before the bell rings.

There will be a lot of information coming home this week.  Typically, PTA flyers will come home on light blue paper.  If you haven’t already, please sign up with your email address on our website – by subscribing you will receive an email whenever new content is published to our website, including our “Virtual Backpack” – a digital version of all PTA flyers that are sent home with students.  Our first PTA meeting is this Thursday, August 18 @ 8:15 am in the Auditorium.  We hope you will join us to learn more about all the exciting things we have planned for this school year.  Welcome back!

 

 

Welcome Back!

welcome-pencil13pWe hope everyone had a great first day back to school!  You should have received a folder from the school containing lots of information, flyers and forms to fill out.  Don’t panic! We know it’s a lot to take in at once, and we are here to help!  Here is what you should have received from the PTA:

  • Ice Cream Social ~ Hawaiian Style Flyer (Friday, August 28th, 5:30 – 7:30 pm) and RSVP form – don’t forget to turn in your RSVP so that we can send home your FREE shave ice tickets (max. 6 per family).  Additional tickets will be available at the event for $1, while supplies last.
  • Yearbook Committee Meetings Schedule – We need lots of volunteers to help take pictures and put the pages together for our yearbook!  First yearbook meeting is Wednesday, August 26th, at 8:15 am in the Parent Center.  Check out the Committees tab on the website for a list of committee meetings throughout the year.
  • Help Raise Funds for Apperson ~ Fundraising Flyer – check out the Fundraising tab for info about all of the ways you can raise funds for Apperson through the every day shopping that you already do!
  • Save Your Pull Tabs flyer – starting this year, Apperson PTA will be collecting soda can pull tabs to help support Pasadena Ronald McDonald House.
  • PTA events participation slip – please sign the permission slip so that your students can participate in all of the wonderful events that the PTA has planned for this year!
  • Volunteer Form – please complete the volunteer form and return it to school as soon as possible.  Even if you are not able to volunteer, please fill out your contact information and your student’s information, so we can help put together the classroom rosters.
  • August PTA Newsletter – read it here.

PTA flyers and forms will generally come home on light blue paper.

The rest of the information in your folder is from the office – don’t forget to return the following forms to the office by the end of the week:

  • Student Emergency Information Form
  • Three-Way Pledge (School-Parent Compact)
  • Parent/Guardian Publicity Authorization Release
  • Parent/Student Acknowledgement Form (coming soon with the handbook)
  • LAUSD meal application – apply online at www.applyforlunch.com/home/pickdistrict

Have you completed your LAUSD volunteer application? Follow the link to fill out the application, submit it electronically, then print and sign it.  Bring the following to the office: signed application form, volunteer commitment form, valid TB clearance, and fingerprinting (when applicable).  Apply now: http://achieve.lausd.net/Page/890

Where: Apperson Elementary School Auditorium

Come tour the campus, meet other Apperson families, learn more about Apperson Street School and the Apperson PTA, purchase school t-shirts, and enjoy light refreshments!  Kindergarten students will be able to meet their teacher and visit their new classroom.

Apperson PTA 2014-2015 Year in Review

Can you believe this school year is almost over?  Thank you to all of the parents, families, teachers, staff, students and volunteers at Apperson who have made this year so special.  The Apperson PTA sponsors and supports many activities and programs throughout the year, and we could not do it without the help of each and every one of you.  We are already planning for next year, and if you would like to take a more active role in any of our programs, please let us know!  Can you help out for just one hour?  Are you interested in helping with a specific event or activity?  Would you like to hold a position, chair an event or join a committee?  We appreciate any level of committment!  Contact us anytime at appersonpta@gmail.com.

Yearbook Training and 1st PTA Meeting of the Year

Welcome back!  We are jumping right in this week, with our first important meetings happening this Thursday, August 15th.  We will have our first PTA meeting of the year at 8:30 am in the AUDITORIUM – all are welcome to attend!  You do not need to be a member of the PTA to attend our meetings, but we would love for you to join!  Come learn all about membership, and the many activities and ideas we have planned for this year.  Please enter through the Apperson gate.  Coffee and refreshments will be served and children are welcome to attend.

imagesCACNGIN6This Thursday, August 15th, we will also be having a YEARBOOK meeting at 10:30 am in the PARENT CENTER, Room 29.  Anyone interested in participating in the Yearbook process and putting together pages should attend this training with the new yearbook publisher.  You do not need to have your volunteer badge yet to attend the meeting, but you must sign in in the office.  You will need to have your badge prior to taking pictures at any classroom events, so make sure to turn in your volunteer application as soon as possible.
