The Wild West Book Fair is wrapping up this week – students can come back to the Book Fair to shop on Tuesday, September 12 during their recess or lunch, and the Book Fair will also be open after school during Back to School Night from 4:30 pm – 6:40 pm for parents to come purchase books. (Remember, Back to School night will offer two identical sessions for you to meet your student’s teachers in their classrooms from 5:30 -6:00 pm and 6:10 – 6:40 pm – the Book Fair will be open one hour early for you to shop!) All of the teachers have made “wish lists” of books that they would like to have in their classrooms. Please consider purchasing a book from these “wish lists” and donating it to the teacher’s class. Look for the display or ask one of the book fair volunteers for more info. Lastly, you can purchase books online through September 15 – http://onlinebookfairs.scholastic.com/default.aspx?f=3726712. All books ordered online will be shipped to the school for free and delivered to your student at the end of the fair.

Have you signed up for the Ralphs Community Contributions Program? You must renew your contribution every year after September 1st. If you have a Ralphs rewards card, all you need to do is log in to your account (or create one) at www.ralphs.com and add Apperson Elementary School PTA under the “Community Contributions” section. After you are enrolled, every time you shop with your rewards card, Apperson PTA will receive a donation from Ralphs. Need help registering? Call 1-800-443-4438.
The Scholastic Book Fair is now open! Each classroom will be visiting the fair – to find out when your student’s class is going, click here. Students can also visit the Book Fair again on Tuesday, September 12th during recess and lunch. Parents will be able to shop at Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 12th from 4:30 – 7:00 pm. Do you or anyone you know shop at Ralphs? Ralphs is committed to giving back to our community. The Ralphs Community Contribution Program was designed to make fundraising the easiest in town by simply using your Ralphs rewards Card. You must renew your enrollment every year, starting September 1st. Please take a moment to register your Ralphs rewards Card to support Apperson! Simply go to www.ralphs.com and “Sign In” to your account. If you do not have an account, click “Create an Account” and follow the easy steps. Once you are logged in, click on your name/valued customer and select “My Account”. Edit information as needed. Scroll down to “Community Rewards” and click on “Enroll”. Search for Apperson Street Elementary PTA #94755 – click the circle to the left of the organization name and click “Enroll” to finish the enrollment process. If you would like your child to purchase a book, please send money with your child on his or her scheduled day. For younger students, parent volunteers will be there to help them choose age appropriate books. You can also preview the selection of books online and send a note with your child with the titles of the books you would like them to purchase, however not all of the books online will be available to purchase at the fair.
Students can shop again on Tuesday, September 12th at recess and lunch. The Book Fair will also be open at Back to School Night from 4:30 pm – 7 pm for parents to shop, and you can also shop online from September 1st through September 16th. If you would like to volunteer at the Book Fair, please return the volunteer sign up sheet, or email us at email@example.com. All volunteers are required to have a district volunteer badge – contact the office for more information on how to apply or to check to see if your badge has arrived.

The Scholastic Book Fair is now open in the Apperson library! Classrooms will continue to visit the fair every day this week (schedule below). Students that visit the fair but do not bring money may fill out a Book Fair Wish List. Parents are under no obligation to purchase the products listed. Students may return to the book fair on Monday, Sept. 12 or Tuesday, Sept. 13 during recess or lunch if they would like to make additional purchases. If you would like your child to purchase a specific book or books when they visit the fair, please send a note and we will help them locate the book(s). Parents may also shop the book fair at Back to School Night on Tuesday, Sept. 13 from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm. Don’t forget to check out our Teacher Wish Lists on display at Back to School Night to purchase a book to donate to their classroom. Lastly, you can also shop online at http://onlinebookfairs.scholastic.com/default.aspx?f=3573905 – all online orders will ship direct to school for FREE when the online fair has ended.

Calling All Coins! It’s time for our annual Book Fair Penny Wars! Every classroom will have a bucket to collect money for the All for Books campaign. Bring in your pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars! The class that collects the most money during the fair will win a party! Money collected goes directly toward books for our school, plus Scholastic will match our contribution with a donation of books to one of three non-profit literacy organizations. Thanks again for your support!
All classes will visit the Scholastic Book Fair next week. You should have received a flyer indicating the day/time that your child’s class will be going. If you are unsure of your child’s assigned time, it is also posted on the book fair website. Parents will also have the opportunity to shop the book fair at Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 13th from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Family Fun Night – Wienerschnitzel Meal Ticket Order
Family Fun Night – Opportunity Drawing Flyer/Ticket Order
Family Fun Night is this Thursday, March 3rd, 2016. Food trucks will be open at 5:00 pm. Pre-order your Wienerschnitzel meal tickets by sending in your order form or purchase at the event. The NITROPOD truck will also be open selling flash frozen ice cream and sorbet. Beginning at 5:30 pm, there will be fun math, science and literacy activities led by our Apperson teachers, the Book Fair will be open in the library, and the Opportunity Drawing/Basket Raffle will be open in room 13. Pre-order your opportunity drawing tickets by sending in your order form, or look for our parent volunteers selling them before and after school this week. Tickets will also be for sale at the event. Each sheet of tickets is $10, and includes 26 tickets. We recommend writing your name and phone number on the back of each ticket! The Opportunity Drawing will close at 6:50 pm and the winners will be announced at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. You do not need to be present to win. See below for a list of some of the great prizes you could win!
Family Fun Night is coming on Thursday, March 3rd, 2016. There will be math, science and literacy activities for the kids, the book fair will be open for families to shop together in the library, Wienerschnitzel and Nitropod will be here with food for purchase, and there will be an awesome Opportunity Drawing/Basket Raffle to raise money for the PTA general fund. We have already received donations from Adventure City, American Girl Doll, Aquarium of the Pacific, Chipotle, Glendale Center Theater, Hearst Castle, iPic Theaters, Islands Restaurant, LA Philharmonic, Massage Envy, Natural History Museum, San Diego Zoo, Universal Studios, and the Verdugo Hills YMCA! Classrooms are also putting together themed baskets and donations – there will so many great prizes to win! Ticket information will be coming home soon.
